If you ever met Carlye, Carl, or Carol Mabrey, you have had that rare experience. If you haven't met them, I invite you to do so through Carly's web-site at contact carlye. If you attend vintage races (and some local Georgia races), please look for the CARLYE FOUNDATION banner and tent. You can also meet Carl at many of the local Florida vintage races. In July of 2005, Carlye, 24, was severely injured in an automobile accident one mile before arriving home. Carlye and her family's lives were devastated and forever changed. Though progressing each day, Carlye is facing years of therapy and rehabilitation with mounting medical expenses. The Carlye Foundation was established solely to aid this devoted, committed and sacrificing family to help Carlye regain her life and dreams. | PROGRESS NOTES I Spent New-Years with the Mabrey's and had a blast!! Great turn out to ride and even live band on hand!! Wish everyone could have seen Carlye's face when they started playing Tom Petty!! She lit up!! You can see it in her eyes she is just trying to get out-and we all need to just keep helping all we can and give encouragement!! Keep up all of you prayers everyone. Here is a shot of the gang. So many caring friends have contacted us concerned about Carlye's progress. Carl and Carol Mabrey want to keep you informed, so they are going to submit regular updates. September 15, 2006 - Carlye recently turned 25 yrs old on 9-9-2006. We had a birthday party for her. It was a great time with friends, food and miniature ping pong. 26 inches long is the length of the whole table with 2 miniature paddles. I bought it for Mikey Brown as a fun gift but I never really thought we would play with it. It was a blast. Carlye got lots of pretty balloons, cards and flowers. She also got a very nice body massage vibrator with heat and gel pads, and some real good massage creme that she got from her friend, Susie. Susie volunteers her time for Carlye and gives her massages about once a week. That is so nice of her. Carlye is getting better with her body tone and muscles. Thank you everybody for everything. Bye for now. The Mabreys. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARLYE!!! April, 2006 - I thought everybody needed to know how Carlye is doin. Carlye's accident was July 31, 2005, and Carlye has come so far in just a year, but she still has a long way to go. Most of you don't know that Carlye's boyfriend, Jon, of over 5 years together, did not survive the crash. He passed on the scene. Carlye was airlifted by Shands of the University of Florida. Life flight saved Carlye's life that night. Carlye was in intensive care for awhile, with severe brain injury. She had every machine they had to keep her goin. She is the strongest person I have ever known. Then, she progressed to a long-term care facility for a couple of months. In January of this year, she finally got to come to home sweet home where she belongs. My wife and I are now taking care of our beautiful daughter at home. Carlye is now going to therapy twice a week for speech, occupational, and physical thearapy. The therapy is very tough on her and me, but it is really helping a lot. Carlye is starting to make sounds with her mouth and taking small amounts of jello and such. Soon we can do a swallow study and make sure it is goin down in the right place. She is tracking better with her eyes, which means she is following us with her eyes as we move around her. She is moving her arms and legs a lot more lately. She has braces on her feet and hands for about 6 to 8 hrs a day. The best thing that Carlye can do is give kisses that are priceless. I will try to keep you posted when I can on Carlye's progress. Please keep on prayin and write anything about Carlye. We luv hearin what we already know, that Carlye has touched so many lives. We are so very proud of our daughter. Thank you everyone for everything. We luv you! Later 12a, Carlye's dad and best friend forever! |
